I am very much appreciative of your efforts to set -up health educators training program.
As you may be aware, the RSSDI and the Indian College of Nuclear Medicine are both interested in developing such a cadre. I will be happy to advise you on syllabus, particularly in reference to Diabetes/ thyroidology and nuclear medicine. I also feel that all these educators after the initial six months of training should undergo two-month internship with various physicians so that they get practical exposure to educate patients.
I feel that the candidates / the course authorities should also make a token payment to education centers to ensure motivated internship rather than a paid holiday.
The Boston research center with which I am involved would be happy to offer its facilities for such internship of health educators about six months from now. At this center they would be exposed particularly regarding Diabetes education and later in relation to cancer / thyroidlogy / nuclear medicine.
I also feel that there should be an examination at the end of the course with components both for theory and practical exam as well as for internship performance.
Please let me know I can be of any further help. |
